The French producer serves up a funk-fuelled four-tracker on his own new label

This, the first-ever release from new label Cardiology, sees label owner Yann Polewka (AKA Rennais) delivering four prime disco-house slices from the classier end of the spectrum.

Up first is Fake Hunt, which can be filed under disco-house or contemporary disco as you see fit, and which is essentially a re-edit of Geraldine Hunt's Can't Fake The Feeling from 1980. Gwern City Gang, up next, sits more firmly in disco-house territory with mucho use of the filters, and has a sunny but sophisticated feel; it's a mostly instrumental affair but there are some female oohs and yeahs thrown in for luck. Living Groove is the EP's paciest cut, and centres around a wukka-wukking guitar loop and a sampled "and your tender loving ways" vocal snip. And then finally there's Nights Over Vern, which is an instrumental edit/cover of the Jones Girls classic Nights Over Egypt, augmented with fragments of the original vocal.

Pleasingly fromage-free, this is a promising start for the label.
