Save these two for peaktime and they'll do the damage for sure, says Danny Slade
Wheats drops a banging two-track EP on the Solardo boys' Sola imprint, and it's a party starter x2. With both tracks fully loaded and and highly incendiary, this one is going to go right off on the dancefloor.
The Pressure itself begins with a long pumped-up intro made up of a synth loop and percussion. After a sample of a sinister male laugh, this is joined by vocal samples and a high-pitched top line which – as the title suggests and the vocal sample repeats – keeps “the pressure” on. More sinister samples and sci-fi sound effects take us to a break of sorts where the kick is muted, and there's another proper breakdown later on, with a couple of risers in play before a snare roll ushers the energetic track back in.
The accompanying Point 7 opens with a funky bass loop backed by a swung drum beat, then brings in a swirling riser which gets more intense as the track progresses. There are some vocal samples in the mix, including the well-known C'hantal "something for your mind" one which I haven't heard for a long time! As the track continues, the synth riser is replayed over and over and the bassline is ever-pumping, dropping out only for a brief breakdown; otherwise, the intensity continues throughout.
These two tracks are designed for when the place is already jumping and the crowd is right in the zone, and dropped at the right time both will rock the house for sure.
