The track comes from the 'Cocktail' EP – out now on Eskimo Recordings
Today's premiere comes to you in moving picture form, as iDJ presents the first public airing of the video for Melted (Live) by Transistorcake. It's one of six tracks that make up the Cocktail EP, which is out now on long-running Belgian label Eskimo Recordings.
Transistorcake is a live techno/electronica project led by Orson Wouters, who also records as Sleepers' Reign. Transistorcake's track Mr Croissant Taker appeared on the GTA V soundtrack in 2013, but the project only launched properly last year with the release of the Future Plans, also on Eskimo Recordings.
The track we've got for you today is a constantly evolving slab of moody techno that will be of particular interest to those with a fascination for sound design and/or live electronics, and it comes accompanied by a video that's every bit as moody and atmospheric as the music itself.
Wouters says of the track: "It's a live version of Melted which, due to the Covid-19 situation, was recorded in my living room with my sweetheart on camera, in full lockdown period. The 'depression' that is a bit in the song, fitted in perfectly with that moment. I was still restoring the Yamaha CS-40m you see in the video – it works there on two prototypes of chip clones that I designed myself. Everything is live, except for the drum recording I'm playing, which comes from the tape recorder you see in the back ”
