Features tracks from Ceri, Dubble D, Michael Lovatt and Twisted Puppies

Leeds label 3am Recordings mark their 15th anniversary with what's only their second vinyl release since their 2011 rebirth, and a pleasingly varied EP it is too.

Ceri's fairly self-explanatory Acid Jam gets the ball rolling with a dark, bubbling 303 riff and pounding 4/4s - to these old ears, it's vaguely reminiscent of Hypnotist classic The House Is Mine, but that's by no means a complaint! Dubble D's Darkdays follows, in which the man also known as Moodymanc takes us on a meandering, midtempo and almost cinematic ride into small-hours weirdness. Michael Lovatt then steps up to the plate with the far livelier Say What You Want - a proper deep house waist-winder with a sleazy, snaking bassline at its core - before Twisted Puppies' Disco Kicks brings the EP to a close. Think late 80s Chi-town heard from the bottom of a K-hole and you're somewhere in arena with this one...

Lovatt's contribution just nudges it for me but overall, if you like your house deep, dark and just a lil' bit twisted, you'd be well advised to check for this EP without further ado.
