DJ Nibc's Gothenburg-based label kick off their 20th anniversary celebrations in style

Swedish label Trunkfunk celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2020, and here we have the first of two vinyl samplers trailing the 20 Years Of Trunkfunk compilation proper, which is due later this year. But this is no mere best-of: instead, label boss DJ Nibc asked 20 of the label's regular artists to contribute an unreleased track each. As such, it's hard to tell exactly when these tracks were made: some sound thoroughly current/contemporary, while others have a distinctly old school flava.

One thing's for sure, though: you're not going to get bored, because there's a wide range of styles on display here. Algorythm kicks things off with squelchy, prog-tinged deep houser His Name Was Juri, before franskild brings us some rave nostalgia in the form of Plastic Yacht. Next comes the Skatebård Remix of Gork's Sun Sets, a bottom-heavy affair sitting somewhere between deep house, nu-disco and Balearic but infused, too, with a clear bass music sensibility, before Jens Wickelgren and Polisen join forces on another old skool-leaning cut, breakbeat houser It's All Out. Vintage Chi-town deepness then provides the inspiration for mul.apin's The Only Game In Town, before the EP's closed out by the bleepy, retro house vibes of Vinny Villbass's Liberty.

If you like your house just slightly on the leftfield side but always built with the floor in mind, you'll find much to enjoy here, on an EP that definitely sets the tastebuds tingling for the full set.
