The ever-reliable Tony Stevenson comes up with the goods once more
A fine deep house three-tracker here from UK scene stalwart Tony Stevenson, coming on Newcastle-based Deep Site Space.
Up first is Consequence, a midtempo shuffling number with crisp, toppy drums and with two alternating, heavily reverb'd piano chords by way of a lead line, augmented by male vocal micro-snips, strings sweeps and the occasionally whooshy noise – definitely one from the 'less is more' school of thought. Motif, which follows, has a slightly jauntier rhythm which it tops with fragments of a decidedly Robert Owens-like male vocal, while completing the package is Substrate, a dreamy, driftaway groover made for warm-ups, afterhours and post-club chillin'.
Substrate takes the gold for me, but as ever from Mr Stevenson this is classy stuff all round.
