Unsurprisingly, the Premier League trio serve up two absolute belters for Solardo's label
The legendary Todd Terry has teamed up with Leftwing : Kody to bring some of his distinctive New York sound to UK shores and create two new exciting underground house tracks, Just Getting Warm and Never Forget.
First up is Just Getting Warm itself, which starts with a simple percussive intro that's added to with a thumping kick and skippy snares. The funky bassline is added next, then the vocals, which are repeated in various cut-up forms and put through different FX units to keep them interesting. Later on there's a mad breakdown where they warp and morph the sounds, which works really well and makes this track a strong contender out on the dancefloor, where its rough beats sound great through a booming soundsystem.
The second track, Never Forget, starts with a lo-fi drum machine intro but soon phattens up nicely, with more skippy percussion and both male and female vocals, which are again quite minimal and have loads of FX on them to make them sound interesting, especially the soulful, diva-esque female lead. As you'd expect from such a heavyweight trio, the production is peerless – the 'less is more' approach is applied to both and works like a charm.
Picking a favourite was always going to be a battle as both tracks are very high quality, but for me the soulful wailings on Never Forget seal the deal – it's more uplifting and will work a crowd that little bit harder.
