The UK veterans serve up a two-tracker on Guess Records

UK deep/soulful house duo Spiritchaser (AKA Mark Bamford and Richard Earnshaw) team up once more with vocalist Estefania Diaz, with whom they last collaborated on a 2011 cover of ambient house classic Sueno Latino

That little factoid is particularly relevant here because The Dreams We Have, in its Original REM Mix form, harks back unashamedly to that ambient house/dream house sound of the early 90s - think The Orb, The Beloved or, er, Sueno Latino. Here, spoken female psychobabble vox, birdsong and other ambient sounds twitter away atop muted drums, slow-moving resonant bass and muted 4/4s, making for a cut that will no doubt have Ibiza veterans going all dewy-eyed as they hazily recall come-down sessions of yore! For dancefloor play, though, the more obvious pick would be the Club Mix, which is pacier and tuffer, with a far less polite bassline and gorgeous, garage-y chords.

It would be hard to argue there's much new ground being broken here, not least because one of the two mixes is a straight-up homage to a sound that's largely forgotten these days. But this pair have over 40 years' production experience between them, and on this classy little release it definitely shows…
