Deep, melodic house grooves

Track is taken from the 'Wildcall EP', out on 25 May

Today, iDJ is delighted to bring you the first chance to hear Okapia by Dutch duo Stickr. The track is taken from the Wildcall EP, which is out on Friday (25 May), and which is the 10th release on their own Stickrsound label.

Stickr are Charly D Prinz and DB Couchmeister, and come from The Hague. Both music obsessives from an early age, Charly D first cut his teeth DJing in clubs in the Netherlands, while DB comes from a production background. They got together as a duo in 2004, working at first as Devoice, under which name they put out numerous records on Cloud 9 Dance and their own Kompressor label. In 2010 they changed their name to Stickr, releasing an album called Rise & Fall on One Hill Records the following year before eventually setting up Stickrsound in May 2017. Stickrsound releases have found favour with the likes of Marco Carola and Chris Fortier, which gives you some idea of the kind of prog-leaning melodic house and techno that is the label's stock-in-trade.

Elsewhere on the Wildcall EP you'll find Textilis, a moody, dubby slice of deep techno, and the title track Wildcall, a housier affair with a nagging synth riff as its main hook. But our ears were drawn most to Okapia, with its more driving 4/4s, expansive soundstage and overall air of carefully controlled tension - perfect for helping push those long, slowly evolving sets towards a climax.
