Quirky, sprightly techno from Berlin

The 'Lemon EP' is out on Friday on the duo's own Toktok Records

We take a jaunt into techno pastures for today's exclusive track premiere, as iDJ brings you the first chance to hear Lemon by Toktok. It's the title track from the four-track Lemon EP, which is out this Friday (20 February) on their own Toktok Records label.

Toktok are the Berlin-based duo of Nerk (real name Benjamin Weiss) and Fabian Feyerabendt. Originally a five-piece, they've been together since the mid-90s, emerging out of the city's free party scene – they used to put on raves with the likes of Spiral Tribe. Known for live jams that can go on for up to 24 hours, and sometimes working with vocalist Soffy O, they've racked up over 30 releases to date, including a couple of outings on BPitch Control in the late 90s.

Elsewhere on the Lemon EP you'll find the burbling bass of tech-house workout Factoids, the Detroit-leaning Tesda and the fiercer, electro-tinged In The Grey We Live. But the track we're presenting today is the title cut, which looks to both techno and house for inspiration, and which distinguishes itself via the use of glockenspiel/xylophone-like sounds that lend the track an almost Far Eastern air.
