Alex Flatner & Lopazz provide the obligatory remix of the title track
Piemont storm into 2017 with another essential EP on the ever-creative Lapsus Music, with two originals plus a remix of the title track.
First up is the original of Gingersnap, which starts with a funky loop of bass and percussion. As it rolls on, vocal samples and risers are added and the bassline fattens out into a proper funky little grooover. There are minimal elements at play here, yet it still manages to produce a fat sound that sounds great when played at the appropriate level... which is, of course, loud!
The second track is entitled Ear Fatigue, a title which in no way describes the funk-laden gem that the track actually is, with Latin-sounding riffs and a funky backbeat that features a smattering of piano, bass synths, more minimal vocals and woodblock percussion sounds. And then finally you have the Alex Flatner & Lopazz Remix of Gingersnap, a much darker affair with a fuller sound featuring Moby-esque "yeahs", a stabbing synth riff, subtle acidic bass notes and swung percussion which moves it along perfectly for those crazy, ever so slightly sinister moments in any good night out where everything gets a bit frenzied.
As for a favourite track, this is a hard one to call - all three do serious damage, so I'll leave that choice up to you!
