2 Bit Thugs

"They know what is house but they don't know what is house…"

Chin-strokers look away now, because this two-tracker from East Recordings nothing but house music of the 'big, stompy and grin-inducing' variety.

Two mixes to choose from. The original fuses a distinctly Marshall Jefferson-esque nagging piano riff with a cut-up male vocal that tips a cheeky nod in the direction of Fatboy Slim's Star 69 – "They know what is house but they don't know what is house. This is house!" A second "I give you love, you bring me joy" diva vocal further enhances the old-skool house feel.

It's probably the remix from veteran producer Ian Bland (Dancing Divas, Dream Frequency) and Kadence Records boss Eddie 'Soul Cat' Armani that's likely to see the most club play, though. Here, the beats are tuffened up in a vaguely Tenaglia-esque fashion, while a strutting bassline and energy-infusing sirens/FX share centre stage with that male vocal, which now loops incessantly.

Not the most innovative or 'cool and credible' house cut of the week, admittedly - but it'll move bodies on dancefloors without a doubt.
