The likes of Louie Vega, David Morales and Dave Lee are already confirmed for the house-focused Shoreditch club
London's getting a brand new club next month… and a hefty dose of 90s nostalgia at the same time.
Set to open on 25 June – coronavirus permitting, of course – Glam is located in Shoreditch, and housed in the space fondly remembered by many 90s ravers as Club Aquarium. And, oddly enough, it's brought to you by the same people – Carl McCormick and Paul Nelson, who first opened up Club Aquarium in 1995. Before that, Nelson was the main behind the legendary Raindance raves, so the pair definitely have the track record for the job!
Given that history, it's perhaps unsurprising that Glam will be, in many ways, a nod to the glory days of the 90s. Not just in the music selection – which is described as “house, house and more house, every Friday and Saturday” – but in the swanky décor, too, which is a marked departure from the typical Shoreditch warehouse aesthetic.
As McCormick puts it: “I cut my teeth at the always beautifully designed and luxuriant Renaissance with its world-class DJs, and I'm not gonna lie, it's a huge inspiration for what we are doing with Glam. The club is just what everyone needs right now – something that's high-end, super special in every way, but never too stuffy or elitist. We're proudly going against the grain and redefining the glossy glam of the 90s with a contemporary soundtrack.”
Glam has three rooms: the main room, the VIP Phoenix Lounge (in the space where Club Aquarium famously used to have a swimming pool) and Salon Privé, an Art Deco-themed cocktail bar/restaurant space that will feature live soul and jazz. Head back into the main room, though, and you'll find some of the world's most legendary house spinners dropping in this summer…
