Manchester producer Smallridge comes to the fledgling Italian label

What we have here is the forthcoming sixth release from HOUPH, a house label based in Italy that debuted with Demarkus Lewis's A Break In The Clouds back in May – you may remember we did an interview with Demarkus about it at the time.

This time around it's Manchester-based Neil Smallridge at the controls, and his original version of Positive Spin is a killer – soulful but chunky, deep but with plenty of dancefloor energy, it's pretty much everything yours truly loves about house music condensed into six and a half glorious minutes, organ stabs, chopped-up fem vox and all! The accompanying High Grade Acid Mix isn't credited so I'm assuming it's Smallridge's own rework, but either way it does exactly what it says on the tin – bringing the original's very subtle acid elements to the fore while ditching the garage-y organs.

The acid mix may well have slightly broader appeal, but the original's the one for the deep heads, so you pays your money and you makes your choice! Luckily both rubs are straight out of the top drawer, so you're onto a winner either way…
