The Stuttgart selector commences his Shoreditch sessions on 13 October. His curated line-ups will be revealed early September
London’s XOYO have revealed their final quarterly resident of 2017. Following the on-point recruitments of Andy C, The Black Madonna and Erol Alkan, Motor City Drum Ensemble will conclude another hugely successful year of unique artist-in-residence sessions.
Famed for his deep digging, dot-joining, soulful journeyman selections, Motor City Drum Ensemble – real name Danilo Plessow – will curate and host 10 parties at the Shoreditch venue from 13 October. Keen to go back to his roots and return to the warm-up slot where he cut his teeth in the early 2000s, his residency will be a rare opportunity to experience where he’s coming from musically.
“It's been literally a decade since I've had a regular weekly spot at a club,” he states on Facebook. “It feels great to be back, doing what I did for most of my early career. I now have the opportunity to not only play peak time, but also the warm-up set. It's kind of surreal and i'm forever grateful for the opportunity to see how things have changed over the course of these past years.
“When I started out in the early 2000s, minimal techno was the prevailing sound of the moment and if you tried to do anything out of the ordinary, it wasn’t very rewarding - we struggled to have 50 people through the door or our parties, month after month. It seems like the acceptance for a broader musical spectrum, as well as the roots of the very thing we celebrate at parties all over the world has changed, so i'm really happy to be able to curate a residency at one of London's clubbing institutions."
Launched in 2014, XOYO’s residency sessions are a direct celebration of original DJ and club culture and have given some of the world’s most respected and creative DJs are complete freedom to curate and host a series of parties with their favourite line-ups and their own music policy. Previous residents include DJ Harvey, Skream, Jackmaster, Bicep, Benji B, Eats Everything, Tiga and more.
Motor City Drum Ensemble’s line-ups will be revealed in early September. A limited amount of super-early bird tickets are available now for £5. Don't sleep.
