Belgium's ever-excellent Gents & Dandy's come up trumps once more
We're a little piece late on this one - it nearly got overlooked due to yours truly moving house, and all the chaos that entails. But it's just too good not to tell you about!
There's just the two tracks on offer. The title cut Flashback itself is great and will appeal to anyone who loves raw, traditional-style US house with its simple, nagging piano chords/riff, rough-edged drums and scatty male vocal loop. But the stone-cold killer is actually B-side The New York Jit, which opens with a parping organ riff reminiscent of Crystal Waters' Gypsy Woman, then introduces frantic skippy beats and female vocal cut-ups, while interest is maintained as the track progresses with jazzy keyboard licks and a familiar "you make me feel so good" vocal sample.
Flashback is cool but The New York Jit is as fine a slice of proper trad-style US garage as has landed in my inbox for months. Go seek!
