Question Reality wants to channel the contemporary sound of the White Isle
Following this summer's successful season of Question Reality events, Manu Gonzalez pays homage to his roots with a brand new label of the same name. It launched this week, 6 September, with Bring Back, a collaboration between Manu and Italian rising talent Shaf Huse.
“Ibiza has massively influenced me," says Manu who was born on the island in 1990 and has been DJing at some of the island's most respected clubs since the age of 15. "It’s a magical place and there is no place like Ibiza. From working in Ibiza’s famous record shop Discos Delta to DJing in clubs around the island, I’ve always been passionate about music and the island, I’m proud to call myself an Ibizan.”
He should be proud of his beats, too. Bring Back balances a fine line of classic percussive and hip-slinking, groove-based Balearic house synonymous with Ibiza, while hitting hard with contemporary production that could complement any house set, a fusion Manu is keen to champion as the label develops.
“Tracks for me have to be original, have a great hook and if there is no hook, they have to have something special within the track," he explains. "It’s very important to me to have a prominent bassline, a groove-lead bassline is the key to get my attention. On top of that, creative vocals and rhythm – then you’ve got me. We mainly want to release great tech-house, deep house, house, techno, ninimal and microhouse.”
