Introducing Dutch DJ/producer Pierre Hagelaars and partner-in-crime Thijmen Hoebink
Our new regular Making Waves feature will showcase DJ mixes from rising stars and hot new talent, starting with a disco duo from Rotterdam…
Name: The Policy
AKA: Pierre Hagelaars (formerly known as Disko Matique)
Describe the music you make in 20 words or less: House music approached from a songwriting perspective, always with acoustic elements and an eccentric twist.
Five key influences: Trevor Horn, Trentemøller, Todd Terje, The Chemical Brothers, Roxy Music
What one artist/producer would you most like to work with, and why? I always loved crossovers in electronic music so that's why I would love to work together with David Byrne (Talking Heads). I always loved the way Byrne incorporated contemporary dance music in his own unique style, and I would love to see what he would do with modern day house music. I could definitely see the energy and brilliance from the timeless 'Stop Making Sense' translated to 2020.
If people check out just ONE of your tracks, what should it be? I would choose Changes, because that song was lightning in a bottle and captured the synth-y, wavy sound and songwriting that I definitely want to explore more in future releases.
Tell us about this mix: This mixtape was created by us, The Policy. It is a combination of space disco, groovy electro and deep rhythms all coming together in one mind-bending cocktail of jacked-up grooves, aiming to create your very own club experience at home or on your headphones. We wanted to encapsulate the energetic deep vibes that we fed into our new single The Interstate Of Disco. Hope you like it.
What else do iDJ readers need to know? A prominent collaborator on The Policy is music producer Thijmen Hoebink, who I work with for already 10 years and who is a huge part of the sound of The Policy.
Interstate Of Disco is out now on PIAS Recordings
