Music On resident LEON launches his brand new label FUTURA this week, so he did us a mix to celebrate
Making Waves showcases DJ mixes by rising stars of the scene. Today it's the turn of Italian DJ and producer LEON. Unlike most artists that have featured in this slot, LEON is no newcomer – he's been a resident at Marco Carola's Music On since 2012, for one thing, and has played everywhere from fabric to DC10.
But he's about to launch his brand new label FUTURA, which debuts with LEON's own Jones 2.0 collab Get Back Up this Friday. That's sure to raise his profile even higher, so we decided it was enough of an excuse to get him in…
Describe the music you make in 20 words or less: I like to play and make house music with some techno, dub, minimal influences.
Five key influences: Zip, Marco Carola, Laurent Garnier, Danny Tenaglia, Ricardo Villalobos… and if I'm allowed another one, DVS1
What one artist/producer would you most like to work with, and why? This is a hard question! I don't know, I mean…so many, I think Masters At Work because I think they have greatly influenced my spirit and my love for house music, I really think may each of us be devoted to them!
If people check out just ONE of your tracks, what should it be? Like This Like That was out on Cecille almost 10 years ago but many artists still play it, like Ricardo Villalobos, Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Zip, Raresh and more…
What else do iDJ readers need to know? They must know that I am first a DJ and then a producer, and that there is so much difference between these two things that often people do not know. Being a DJ is a lifestyle and not based only through social media! As a DJ, I like to play long sets because I like to be eclectic and have the possibility to play what I want from the beginning to the end of the party.
And they also need to know that, after almost 20 years of music, my brand called FUTURA was born and I invite you to follow it because it will be special!
Get Back Up by LEON feat Jones 2.0 is out on FUTURA on 28 May
