LaRosa returns to Kareem Cali's label; Alexkid and NTFO remix
An all-Brooklyn affair here, as local producer LaRosa returns to Kareem Cali's Brooklyn-based Inmotion Music.
Two tracks plus a remix apiece make up the All Business EP. First up is the title track, which is mostly about the near-breakbeat rhythm but does top it with snatches of spoken, sampled vocal and the occasional (and quite subdued) riser/siren-type sound. Alexkid's remix then switches things up considerably, opting for sparse, steppy beats and a big, heavy, almost jungle/SG-like bassline. The other original track, Recluse, is a glitchy, minimal-leaning affair, quite pacey and with lots of microsounds in play, while NTFO's remix plumps for harder kicks, a more prominent bassline and a touch of acid, and ends up as a kind of tech-house/minimal fusion.
All four mixes are plenty playable, but for me the Alexkid Remix is the clear standout: that bassline just demands the immediate throwing of dancefloor shapes.
