The likes of Sunburn and Supersonic will have to reschedule their events for 2016
The regional government of Goa in India
has announced that, from 2016 onwards, electronic dance music
festivals will not be allowed to take place in the region during the
peak holiday season from 15 December to 15 January.
The announcement came during a week
that sees two of the sub-continent's biggest dance festivals, Sunburn
and Supersonic, taking place simultaneously. The Goan authorities are
said to be concerned about heavy traffic, security issues and the
impace on the high-end tourist trade.
The Chief Minister of Goa, Laxmikant
Parsekar, announced the ban on 26 December - while granting
permission for this year's festivals to go ahead as planned on the
27th. Parsekar said: "I called the organisers and told them that
this would not be tolerated. The dates of both the events should not
clash and they should be conducted before 15 December or after 15
January from the next year."
Headline acts at Supersonic this year
include Azwell, Zedd, Disclosure, DJ Zinc, Mala, Nervo, Don Diablo
and Addison Groove, while on the bill at Sunburn are Dimitri Vegas &
Like Mike, Bassjacker, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Seth Troxler, Art
Department, Liquid Soul, Tube & Berger and many more.
