2 Bit Thugs

One big main room slayer and one track that takes a more subtle approach

Two slamming tracks here from one of Anjunabeats’ most prolific producers, Damion Houchen AKA Genix, who has followed up his recent hit Black Water in fine style with a double A-sider that's bursting with energy.

The first track, XO, has already been jumped on by the likes of Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren and has been a staple of their sets for quite a while. You can see why when you listen to it, as it merges energy with fine production skills with great aplomb. It starts with a simple drum loop and quickly builds with risers, synth lines and pads into an energetic monster with a subtle piano riff and an ethereal breakdown. There are great slabs of sound that I defy you not to want to dance to - it's energy personified and I can see this going down a storm on a decent club or festival soundsystem

First Mind isn’t quite so brash in its approach, opening with a quirky percussive intro then building through an electro bassline and delicate pads until the slightly acidic main riff kicks in, which is simple yet highly effective. The breakdown has female vocal pads and a repeated synth-piano riff, and this track is a perfect example of the 'less is more' approach to music production.

Both will no doubt do some serious damage over the summer months. If pushed then my favourite of the two is XO, but it's a very close call!
