Afrika Bambaataa, Norman Jay, Mr Scruff and DJ Yoda will also play at the event on 13-15 May
The
full line-up has now been announced for the very first Soundcrash Funk &
Soul Weekender, which takes place at Pontins holiday camp, in Camber
Sands, East Sussex on 13-15 May. It's brought to you, as the name subtly hints, by
Soundcrash, who've been successfully promoting funk and hip-hop
parties in London for over 10 years.
Heading
the bill is soul, jazz and funk legend Roy Ayers, who'll be playing
live, as will Tru Thoughts' purveyors of all things downtempo and
funkified Quantic, the nine-piece Gentlemen's Dub Club, live hip-hop
crew The Mouse Outfit and the Renegade Brass Band.
DJ-wise,
attendees will be able to catch sets from hip-hop and electro pioneer
Afrika Bambaataa, national treasures Norman Jay and Mr Scruff, Radio
6 Music's in-house funkateer Craig Charles, Ninja Tune hero DJ Vadim,
Afrobeat specialist Tony Allen, and Latin jazz guru Snowboy. Oh, and
cut-n-paste maestro and turntablist DJ Yoda, AKA iDJ's very own
hip-hop correspondent back in the day!
As
well as the big names above, there are way too many more
underground/up-and-coming artists and DJs to list here, so for the
full line-up - or to buy tickets, which can be yours for as little as
£129pp including chalet accommodation - hit up the weekender
website.
