More cancellations and postponements likely as virus continues to spread

This year's Miami Winter Music Conference, which was due take place on 16-19 March, is being rescheduled for later in the year, it was announced yesterday. Badge holders for the 2020 Conference have been instructed to "please stand by for direct communication with further updates." The news follows the announcement earlier in the week that Ultra Music Festival, which was due to take place in Miami on 20-22 March, is being postponed until 26-28 March.

Other big events that have been cancelled due to Covid-19 so far include Ultra Abu Dhabi (5-6 March), SXSW in Austin, Texas (13-22 March), France's Tomorrowland Winter (13-21 March) and Beat Hotel Marrakech (Morocco, 19-22 March) while Coachella (California, 10-12 and 17-19 April) has been postponed until 9-11 and 16-18 October.

In Italy the situation for promoters is even more dire, with the nation essentially on lockdown and all public gatherings (including club nights, not just festivals) forbidden until at least 3 April, while in France the government has banned all gatherings of over 1,000 people.

With nearly 120,000 cases of coronavirus (including over 4,000 deaths) reported in 107 countries so far, expect to see more festivals and other events announcing postponements and cancellations as the week progresses.
