The single is out today on Discotexas Records
This week's top track premiere comes in video form, as iDJ presents a first chance to see the video for Super Drama's Ultra, which is out today.
Super Drama came to fame as residents at long-running London gay night Dalston Superstore. They've been DJing and putting on their own parties for over a decade, but in the past couple of years they've moved into the production arena and their profile has been growing steadily ever since, with guest slots on Rinse FM and NTS Radio and, most recently, top billing at another ultra-hip LGBT+ night in the capital, Adonis.
For us, both the video for Ultra and track itself have distinct echoes of house's origins in the gay disco clubs of Chicago, but here's what the duo themselves have to say about it: "We originally set out to create a big mechanical disco instrumental, with a long build to use in our DJ sets. A heads-down, bass-heavy track. Hugo loved it and asked us to bring a vocalist into the mix. We had been personal friends with Josh Caffé for a while and always been planning on working together. It was perfect timing as Josh loved the instrumental and within a week we were in Crow's Nest studios recording the vocals with the help of Olly Betts. The vocals are centred around the idea of being 'ultra'."
