The iOS app is now out of beta – sorry Android users, you'll have to wait a little longer

Discogs has long been one of every vinyl junkie and music obsessive's favourite destinations on the internet, yet until now if you wanted to access the site on the go, you were stuck with using a browser. But today, a dedicated Discogs app finally became available - though only for iOS. An Android app is, we're assured, on its way, though Discogs say there are no imminent plans to build an app for Windows.

The iOS app, in the meantime, is free to download. Once you do, you'll be asked to sign in, so if you don't already have an account you'll need to set one up. Once you're logged in, you can browse the vast database, check prices, and add items to your collection or wants list. The app also includes a barcode scanner, so you can easily check the price of items while you're out crate-digging, or add purchases to your collection the minute you step away from the shop counter.

What you can't currently do, though, is buy and sell using the app – for that, you'll need to go to the actual website, though you can at least click straight through to it from the app. But that may change - according to the app FAQ on the Discogs site, “We are just getting started! Our app, just like our site, will be built around what our community wants” - and we suspect this is one feature the Discogs community will be crying out for.
