Veterans Digital and Outrage serve up some dark, heavy rave vibes
This three-track EP is Metalheadz' last release of 2020 – and their first from D&B veterans Digital & Outrage in duo guise. Both producers have had solo EPs on the label before, of course – in Digital's case, dating back to as long ago as 1996. Which is kind of relevant, because what we have here are three tracks that – stylistically, at least, if perhaps not in terms of production values – could have been released at any point in the label's long and illustrious history.
Kingdom itself gets the ball rolling, marrying intricate, toppy breaks to a monster of a buzz bassline, then topping the lot with Rastaman vox about the Kingdom Of Zion. Next comes Reunion, a slightly harder cut with tearing breaks and gnarly synths, before the EP's closed out by Diligent, which is the fiercest of the lot.
If you're in the market for some heavy, classic-style jungle/D&B vibes this week, this EP is one you'll definitely want to check – and a great way to end Metalheadz' year before their 25th anniversary celebrations begin in earnest in January.
