'Nubreed 9', compiled and mixed by Iranian DJ Habischman, will be out on 29 July
Younger readers may not remember, but back around the turn of the millennium, Global Underground's Nubreed series of mix CDs was one of the places to discover up-and-coming DJ talent.
In what was quite a brave move at the time, the label - which had been putting out big-selling comps by the likes of Deep Dish, Paul Oakenfold and Danny Tenaglia for several years - took a punt on releasing mix albums by more up-and-coming spinners such as Anthony Pappa, Danny Howells, Steve Lawler, Sander Kleinenberg and Lee Burridge, all of whom soon went on to become household names. The original Nubreed series ended in 2002 with a sixth volume from the far more established Satoshi Tomiie; a couple more installments followed in 2009, from Jim Rivers and Sultan, but for the past seven years the brand has remained dormant.
Now, though, Global Underground is bringing the Nubreed marque back, and the man selected to get the ball rolling with Nubreed 9 is Habischman, an Iranian DJ/producer whose productions have already graced respected labels such as Get Physical and VIVA Music. His two-disc mix is a journey through many styles of house from tech to prog to tribal, and features cuts from Richard Dinsdale, Paul C & Paolo Martini, Marc Romboy, Darlyn Vlys, Hector and Franck Roger, plus a host of newer artists, including two of Habischman's own tracks as well as his remix of Dinsdale's Your Mind.
We'll bring you a review of the album nearer the time, but if you can't wait that long, it's available for preorder now from the Global Underground website.
