The mysterious Demi Riquisimo delivers a second salvo from his own Semi Delicious Records label
Following a sold-out pressing of his debut EP, A Lifetime On The Hips, Demi Riquísimo returns to his own Semi Delicious, ready to pick up where he left off.
Four tracks make up the prosaically titled SD002 EP. First into the frey is Pa De Chevaux, which is disco and funk all the way, from the first sampled loop, through the solid 4/4 drum beat, to the jazzy, funky sax fills which fit so perfectly with the Clavinova keyboard line that forms the backbeat of the track. Next up is Certified, which moves the sound on a decade or so with a great 80s-sounding synth riff which is poppy and works great with the solitary female vocal and the tight drum machine programming. This is followed by Mysterious, a builder which starts with a synth and builds quite slowly into another disco-funk nugget with Philly-style strings as the main hook, along with a punchy electro bassline and, later on, some bass synth distortion that nearly goes too far at the end and sounds great for it! The fourth and final track Tagine Machine takes it to another level of synth distortion and features female vocals as well, which grounds it somewhat and gives you a great juxtaposition in sound.
All the tracks feature great drum sounds and rhythms, and the EP overall is a real delight to listen to, with all four tracks being worthy of a single release in their own right. Check this one out at your earliest convenience!
