Demarkus Lewis brings the deep, soulful vibes, with a remix assist from Lucas Haze
Italy's HOUPH label continue a stunning run of form since they launched with a return to the label for Demarkus Lewis.
There are just the two rubs of Learn To Know to choose from. Lewis's original opens a simple lolloping kick and almost military-style snares, before introducing first a warm, rounded bassline, then some lovely jazzy, garage-y keys. The track then rolls along nicely till around the two-minute mark, when dramatic synth sweeps usher in the Om/Naked-style female vocal ("think you'd better learn to know"). Lucia Haze's remix, meanwhile, opts for slightly more straight-ahead 4/4s, proggy synths and – most notably – a different bassline, one which owes not a little to Expansions…
Not picking a fave here because both mixes are sheer class. As I said at the start, then: another winner from HOUPH!
