Hungarian producer Chiqito serves up two cuts that are primed for dancefloor devastation

A splendid two-track house release here on Cassy’s Kwench Records. It comes from Hungarian producer Chiqito, who since bursting onto the scene in 2012 has released tracks on the likes of Elrow Music, Suara, Rawthentic, Snatch! and Toolroom, and can count the likes of Jamie Jones, Marco Carola and Hot Since 82 as fans.

The opener for this EP is Grip Pump itself, which starts with a kick, bassline and futuristic acidic squelch, then builds through layers of percussion and vocal samples to a riser and mini-break, after which it moves on with a different bassline, and added vocal chops and screams for dramatic effect. It's a proper floorfiller of a tune, with a fast pace to match its street bravado. As the track progresses there are more breaks, which add tension and make this tune into something really special.

The second track, My Bass Is Strong, operates at a lower tempo and starts out with old-school drum machine loops that evolve nicely until a whomping bassline kicks in. Then some hip-hop vocal chops are added, and you have another dancefloor devastator on your hands. There's a break with a messed-up vocal and sci-fi sound shots, and then on it plays to the outro.

This is a very strong release and both tracks, although at different tempos, are peak-time fodder that will get a crowd raving for all they are worth. I have no favourite and look forward to hammering both.
