New reworks are out this Friday (18 May) on Intec Digital
Carl Cox has teamed up with Chip E - or 'Chip E The Godfather Of House', if you prefer - to rework and reissue the latter's seminal 1986 cut Time To Jack.
The original version of Time To Jack, produced by Chip E and Joe Smooth, was released on Underground, a sub-label of Rocky Jones's DJ International. Though sources differ, many credit it with being the record that introduced the term "jacking" into house music's vocabulary... either way, there's no denying it was one of the most influential records during house music's earliest days.
The track got a reissue on Chip E's own House Records label in 2009, but now he's joined forces with Carl Cox to re-record the vocal, fatten up the bottom end and generally give it a bit of a sonic makeover to make it more playable in 2018 DJ sets - thankfully without messing with the magic that made it such a success in the first place. The reissue features vocal and instrumental versions.
