First release will be remixes of East West Connection’s ‘Once I’ve Been There’
Some good news today for those who like their house music on the jazzy and soulful side: Chllifunk Records, originally run by Dr Bob Jones and Lofty, gets ready for a re-launch as Lofty joins forces with Tom Davidson to bring the much-loved label back into play.
Chillifunk Records was launched in 1996, and over the course of 10 years put out countless records by the label bosses in their East West Connection guise, as well as from the likes of Ultra Nate, Dubtribe Sound System, Nathan Haines, Jody Watley and Notenshun, AKA Lofty and Werner Niedermeier. And now, some 15 years on from the label’s last release, they’re back in the game.
The first release from the vitalised stable will be East West Connection’s Once I’ve Been There. This cover of a 1977 Norman Connors hit, first released in 2000, now comes with two new mixes apiece from L&T Project and Iconix as well as the Original Mix, and will be available on Traxsource from 12 November, with a full release to follow two weeks later.
