2 Bit Thugs

There's just the one club-friendly mix but that'll do the job, says Danny Slade

A rough, tough and ready for dancefloor action track here from CASSIMM, which like the cover image is a bit of a rollercoaster ride with thrills, tension and excitement around every twist, turn and drop.

There are two mixes, a full length one at over seven minutes and a shorter one that I'm guessing is aiming at radio play. First up is the full version, which begins with a muted kick and a choppy, slicing hi-hat pattern that really stands out throughout. The pair are joined by a full kick and a bass tone, then a sample of someone laughing, before a snare roll ushers in the bassline which is rough and funky and makes for a very danceable backbeat. There are other odd vocal samples thrown into the mix and as the track reaches a breakdown the “feel like this” main vocal sample comes in, looped up and backed with a military-style snare roll which gives it great impact. As the track progresses there are other minimal instrument samples, odd vocal effects, risers and general musical madness in play that all give the track a real underground feel.

The edit is well done and gets the track's quirkiness acrosss in a shorter package, so will stand it in good stead on the airwaves, but for me it's all about the full version that truly rocks the funky beat to the max!
