Aphex Twin teases new EP 'Cheetah'

Warp have been sending a spoof advertisement to record shops

A tracklisting and release date remain under wraps for now

A number of record stores, including Drift in Totnes, Devon, have been tweeting pictures of a flyer they've received from Warp Records that suggests a new EP from Aphex Twin is imminent.

The flyer takes the form of an old-fashioned magazine advert, and while the headline says simply 'Cheetah EP', the accompanying text talks about the release as though it were a musical instrument, advising that you should "be sure to read the owner's manual carefully before attempting to operate the Cheetah EP" and even giving a technical specification for it. A tongue-in-cheek nod to the mysterious marketing build-up that preceded the arrival of Richie Hawtin's PLAYdifferently Model 1 mixer, perhaps?

There's no word yet as to a release date, but obviously we'll keep you posted – assuming it doesn't all turn out to be some kind of massive hoax, the Cheetah EP will be Richard D James's first release under the Aphex Twin moniker since the Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt 2 EP in January 2015.
