New app replicates the $10,000 Model 15 modular synth
We're sure there are plenty of iDJ readers who'd love to get their hands on a real Moog synth, but can't afford the asking price. Well, help is at hand, because Moog has unveiled an iOS version of its Model 15 modular synth that retails for a very reasonable £23.
For that, you get a fully-featured virtual synth that faithfully recreates all the knobs, dials and, most importantly, sounds of the original hardware. If you're new to modular synths, the learning curve is famously steep but this is a fantastic way to get hands-on experience. More seasoned users, meanwhile, will want to know that the full spec for the Model 15 includes 2x voltage-controlled amplifiers, 2x voltage-controlled low-pass filters, 1x fixed filter bank, 2x envelope generators, 1x voltage-controlled oscillator, 2x oscillators, 1x oscillator driver, 1x random noise/filter, 1x attenuator, 1x eight-step sequencer, 1x ribbon controller and a ping-pong delay module.
The synth features both monophonic and four-voice polyphonic modes, plus a left-handed mode for the southpaws. The only downside is that you will need an up-to-date, 64-bit device to run it, which means an iPhone 5s, iPod touch 6 or iPad Air/Pro, running iOS 9.3.1 or above.
