New mixes are supplied by Henrik Schwarz and Roman Flügel
Best known these days for his all-conquering Cocoon brand, Sven Väth is a man who's been around electronic music for a long time... three whole decades, in fact. And now his first-ever release is being reissued to mark its 30th anniversary.
First out in 1986, when Sven was a mere slip of a 21-year-old lad, Electrica Salsa (Baba Baba) was the work of Frankfurt based trio OFF, who consisted of Sven plus Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti. Thought it failed to make much of an impression in the UK, Electrica Salsa was a Top 3 hit in France, Austria and Germany and topped the charts in Italy, selling over a million copies. It's widely credited with being one of the first records to introduce the then-new sounds of house and techno to mainland Europe.
As well as the Original Mix, a dub and a radio edit, the reissue will feature brand spanking new mixes from Henrik Schwarz and Roman Flügel. Väth says: "Roman Flügel is a friend and esteemed colleague of mine and he created a really smart version of the track. I’m sure that many people will be surprised by his remix. Henrik Schwarz, on the other hand, actually invited a brass group to the studio and recorded them with strings and latin bass which makes a great modern version."
Electrica Salsa is out on Cocoon on 25 July
