The track's out on We Got This Music tomorrow as part of the 'Tabs' EP
Today's exclusive track premiere finds us once more back in deep, dark dubstep territory in the company of our old friends Bayalien Sound System, as iDJ brings you the you the first chance to hear Hottest, a track taken from their new Tabs EP. The EP's out on Brazilian label We Got This Music tomorrow (Friday 10 April).
Bayalien Sound System should need no introduction to regular iDJ readers – we premiered two of their previous releases last year. But for those who've just joined us, the duo of Chris Cohan and Ivan Lindau, AKA Poppa Doses and Golden Eye, hail from the San Francisco Bay area and say they do what they do because "the psychedelic spirit and mind need music to keep from going blind".
"For people who crave soundsystem-shaking music, songs with no sub-bass can be quite torrid," they tell us. "If you're one of those people, look no further. Your cure has arrived".
There's certainly no shortage of sub-bass on the four tracks that make up the Tabs EP. The title track is sparse, sonorous and dubby, Pusher has a slightly more aggro edge with its sped-up rap samples, and Black Beans pushes further out into experimental territory. But it was Hottest that grabbed us the most on first hearing: it's dark, moody and utterly uncompromising.
