2 Bit Thugs

It's a classic case of "less is more" here, says Danny Sladeā€¦

Armada regular Rodg delivers a top-notch progressive tune in remix form. Renaissance first came out back in March; now, blending the original’s dancefloor-ready elements with his signature sounds, the Dutchman supplies two fresh rubs. Both pack a mighty punch, and the shorter Rodg Remix will be suitable for radio (and the new breed of DJ’s that don't seem to do much mixing as they're too busy throwing Jesus poses), but we'll head straight to the Rodg Extended Remix, which at over eight minutes long is a bit of a masterpiece!

It starts with a solitary kick, which is joined by a slightly acidic-sounding bass synth lick. That plays on its own for a while before more synths arrive to fatten the sound and add some weight to proceedings. A clap and a hi-hat are then added, along with some of those hissing sounds that sound like C02 cannons being fired, and now the track is in full swing, with epic slabs of sound sounding excellent through a nice loud soundsystem – that's always the acid test for these minimal productions, and this track passes with aplomb! We then have a breakdown where a one-note string line is added, before the track builds for the second movement.

There aren't a great deal of sounds in play here, but any good artist knows it's blending those elements in the right way that creates greatness, and this truly is a great remix!
