Man Power comes to Richy Ahmed's label, Roman Flügel gets busy on the remix

Geoff Kirkwood AKA Man Power has had rather a busy year, releasing on many different labels including his own Me Me Me imprint. His final release of 2018, though, is brought to you by Richy Ahmed’s Four Thirty Two label. The EP features three original tracks, plus a remix of of the title track by Roman Flügel.

First up is Outrider, which starts with an electro bassline and percussion and builds with hi-hats, pads and striking sounds that give it an emotive feel from the off. An organ riff joins the fray later on, and the track is a great example of techno with a soul. Next we have the original of Vista, which starts out with space age synths and pads, then hits you with the breakbeat and bassline which, together with a synth lead, form the main body of the track. There's also a breakdown with swirling pads and crisp percussion.

The Roman Flügel remix starts with a deep ominous tone and the breakbeat, then brings in a bass synth and space-y sound FX which all gel together perfectly. Then in comes a 303, which is run through an effects unit and is gone as fast as it came. Finally you have Poly Pop, which starts with an old-school drum machine loop and adds first sampled clangs and a long, flowing synth line, then intricate drum programming and fast bleeps.

Packing four pleasingly varied space-age groovers, this is a truly individual-sounding release that's well worth a listen.
