London brotherly duo Funk Cartel do us a mix
Our Making Waves series features DJ mixes by rising stars of the scene. Today we’re hearing from Funk Cartel, AKA London-born brothers Rory and Cameron, a pair of graduates from Point Blank Music School who’ve recently worked with both Ultra Nate and Kym Mazelle
Name: Funk Cartel
AKA: Kimono Cam, Blame Rory
Describe the music you make in 20 words or less: Bridging the gap between soulful funk and underground house music.
Five key influences: Josh Butler, Frankie Knuckles, ANOTR, Kerri Chandler, Calvin Harris
What one artist/producer would you most like to work with, and why? ANOTR – they run a wicked label and events brand (NO ART) pushing a feel-good housey sound to the big stage and pioneering a nice blend of new and old school house. We think our sounds would complement each other and it’d be a laugh to get in the studio with them.
If people check out just ONE of your tracks, what should it be? The next one coming up!
What else do iDJ readers need to know? We have a vinyl and Bandcamp-only label concept coming in the New Year – keep your eyes peeled for Cartel Cuts!
