Funkadelic, Jocelyn Brown, Adeva, Soul Clap, Caron Wheeler, Josh Milan and more are all involved
Louie
Vega has a new album coming out on 26 February. We'd be tempted to
call it a solo album, only that's far from being the case!
Starring…
XXVIII, you see, sees the Master At Work teaming up with a
dazzling array of talent from right across the musical spectrum. From
original funkateers George Clinton and Funkadelic to current house
darlings Soul Clap, via jazz guitarist Luis Salinas and salsa
percussionist Roberto Roena, and more top-flight vocalists than you could
shake a mic stand at, the line-up involved in Starring… XXVIII
pays testament to the standing Louie's acquired after over 30 years
in the game.
Vega
says of the album: "My
inspirations came from various visits around the world and
experiences in life. As far as the album’s sounds, I revisited lots
of R&B, soul, gospel, nu jazz, even some disco, all within the
backdrop of house music, took it back to the artist and song
tailoring."
Special
mention should be made of the three tracks featuring Lisa Fischer –
jazz diva, backing vocalist for Luther Vandross and The Rolling
Stones, and unarguably one of the most powerful pairs of lungs on the
planet right now, as anyone who's watched 20 Feet From Stardom
will attest!
