"The Earth's Heartbeat"

KRY4 channels the sound of our planet itself on this slab of experimental techno with a message

An interesting record here if you're an aficionado of intergalactic science or care at all about the planet we call home, as it features the sound that Earth emits into outer space.

There are three mixes. First up is an Edit which mixes up the sounds we actually make on Earth, as heard by a radio telescope, put to a backbeat with some celestial pads and synths added to make it more musical and, er… .less geeky, I suppose!? This is poignant stuff, because what you're actually hearing are the sounds of a civilisation that's on the verge of destroying itself, as mass industrialisation and deforestation produce vast amounts of greenhouse gases that are raising the temperature of Earth’s atmosphere and risking our very existence.

The other mixes are a Club Mix which is longer but to be honest not noticeably any more 'clubby' than the Edit, and finally a Techno Mix which is the best and most playable of the three mixes included in this package. It starts with a drum machine rhythm and brings in other sounds that give it a chugging little groove, making this an eminently playable track and not just a statement about humankind's greed and stupidity.

So there you have it, a three-track testament to man’s utter negligence for the very planet that gives us life and a danceable tune to boot! However you look at it, it's worth thinking about, so check it out.
